Message from the UN Resident Coordinator

As Nepal enters the monsoon season, communities across the country once again face the realities of recurrent floods, landslides, climate-related hazards, and other external shocks. These crises remind us that humanitarian action is not only about responding to emergencies—it is also about protecting the hard-earned development gains that people and communities have built over many years.

This edition of the UN Newsletter highlights a critical message: humanitarian response and sustainable development are deeply interconnected. Every effort to save lives today is also an investment in safeguarding tomorrow's progress in health, education, food security, livelihoods, social protection, gender equality, and climate resilience.

Across Nepal, the Government, the United Nations, development partners, civil society organizations, local authorities, and communities themselves are working together to strengthen preparedness and build resilience. Through anticipatory action, disaster risk reduction, and community-led solutions, we are helping vulnerable populations better withstand future shocks while reducing long-term risks.

The stories featured in this edition demonstrate that resilience is built before disasters strike. They showcase innovative partnerships, locally driven initiatives, and integrated approaches that bridge humanitarian, development, and peace efforts. They also illustrate how investments in sustainable development today can significantly reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen communities for generations to come.

Nepal has consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. However, the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related events require us to deepen our collective commitment to prevention, preparedness, and inclusive action. No single institution can achieve this alone. Strong partnerships and local leadership remain central to ensuring that development progress is not reversed by future crises.

The United Nations remains committed to supporting Nepal in its journey toward a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future. Working closely with the Government and our partners, we will continue to promote integrated solutions that not only address immediate humanitarian needs but also strengthen the foundations for long-term development and lasting peace.

As you read this edition, I invite you to reflect on the shared responsibility we all hold: to protect development gains, empower communities, and ensure that no one is left behind—especially in times of crisis.

Together, we can build a Nepal that is better prepared, more resilient, and equipped to thrive despite future uncertainties.
